Goodman furnace cost: Installed Budget and Cost Factors

Goodman furnace cost must separate the equipment listing from installed work. One observed 40,000 BTU/h input downflow model was listed at $3,830, with the seller's installation allowance separate. That is one seller example, not a US or Goodman-wide average.

Goodman furnace cost is easier to compare when the full model and job scope are clear. An online unit price is not the cost of a full install. Start with the unit code. Then add only stated labor and extra work. The observed example below shows why a furnace listing should never stand in for the whole project.

One seller listed the Goodman GD9T960403BN.001 unit at $3,830, with a separate install amount of $1,900-$2,800. The resulting sum is $5,730-$6,630. Site work remains unpriced. It is a seller scenario, not a national price. Use your actual model and written scope to compare bids. Warranty and fit need the supplied unit's current documents.

Published Goodman planning range

The HomeGuide Goodman guide gives $2,100 to $6,300 installed. Source checked October 14, 2026. That broad brand band and the seller example below have different boundaries. Neither quotes your full GD9T96 or GR9T96 project. Keep the exact code and fitting work with a dealer's written amount.

Goodman furnace cost: equipment versus installed budget

Data checked October 14, 2026. Furnace Direct's GD9T96 listing showed the selected GD9T960403BN.001 variant at $3,830. The page says install is separate and gives an amount of $1,900-$2,800. It names Minnesota in the install discussion. No local availability or seller service is promised by this site.

Observed field Amount What it means
Selected equipment SKU $3,830 One equipment price observed on the source page
Seller installation amount $1,900-$2,800 Broad separate installation amount
Sum $5,730-$6,630 Derived equipment-plus-installation scenario

This is one issuer, not two independent same-scope observations. It cannot support a brand average. It also does not provide a full local proposal for your home. Use the example to understand the split.

Replace it with written local amounts when you have them.

A different size or cabinet needs its own price. So does a different model. The install amount is not an hourly rate for every job. Do not divide it by a guessed time or transfer it to an oil or electric project.

Freight, tax, site changes and warranty service terms need their own checks with the seller or installer.

Capacity and Goodman model families

The GD9T96 family is downflow/horizontal. The GR9T96 family is the upflow/horizontal counterpart. The letters and suffix matter. A bid should include the full code, not just Goodman 96 or two-stage furnace.

Ask for the cabinet width, orientation and capacity on the proposal. The model record states what the unit can do. The load report states what the home needs. ACCA Manual J is the load-calculation reference. The old furnace size does not prove how much heat the home now needs.

Keep input and output units separate. A BTU/h input figure describes fuel entering the furnace. Output describes heat delivered by the unit under stated conditions. Our calculator lets you record either one, but it does not convert that record into a sizing decision.

Unknown capacity stays unknown until you have a sound basis.

AFUE and stage options

The current GR9T96 page lists up to 96% AFUE. It lists two-stage heat. The blower is a multi-speed ECM. Some older files use different rating details.

Keep the full quoted code and its current spec. Do not choose the largest number in a search result.

A multi-speed blower is not a claim of the same variable-speed behavior as every other furnace on a shortlist. Heat stages describe firing output. Blower type describes airflow control. Keep both columns when you compare a Goodman bid with a Carrier or Lennox bid.

Similar efficiency labels can hide a different unit package.

Ask what control is included. Do not assume a thermostat change is necessary, or assume it is included, without the scope. If the proposal uses a matched cooling system, record the indoor coil and outdoor unit as well. Heating-only specifications do not prove the rating of an entire cooling combination.

Published warranty terms

The current Goodman page links a unit warranty certificate and warns that limits and registration terms apply. Its current summary differs from some older brochures. That makes the supplied unit's certificate more useful than a generic promise about the brand.

Ask the seller and installer which certificate applies to the full model and install date. Check how to register. Check owner and upkeep terms too. Some state rules differ.

We do not claim that the older lifetime wording applies to every currently sold unit. We also do not turn a parts warranty into a labor guarantee.

Check Goodman's internet-purchase guidance before choosing a retail route. Ask how the supplied unit and install satisfy the actual warranty terms. The unit sale has one record. The install job has another.

Keep copies of both if you buy them separately.

Dealer installation extras

Ask the quote issuer to state the vent, drain, duct transition, control, fuel supply, electrical work, removal and permit scope. Mark an item included only when the quote says so. Mark it separately priced when there is an amount. An omitted item is unknown, not a charge of zero.

DOE's direct-vent guidance provides useful background for the air and exhaust question. Do not use that background to design a vent or perform gas work. Model instructions and the install assessment govern the actual job. The budget should cover that confirmed scope.

Compare itemized quotes

Use the furnace replacement cost calculator to total each proposal. A fixed amount can be entered at both ends of the range. If the dealer supplies one installed bundle, use the bundle layout. Do not then add the furnace unit a second time.

If cooling is in that bundle, mark it included too.

Compare exclusions before drawing a conclusion from the totals. A smaller subtotal may cover less work. Read the Lennox furnace cost guide for a variable-speed comparison, or return to the furnace brands shortlist. Get a clear written scope next. Do not guess the brand's total price.

FAQ

Does an online Goodman price include installation?

Not unless the listing explicitly states an installed package and its scope. The example on this page prices install separately. Ask about removal, permits and needed changes too. Keep the retailer's unit record and the installer's agreement together.

So a low unit figure does not conceal work you still need to buy.

Are GR9T96 and GD9T96 interchangeable?

They describe different install orientations. The right full model depends on the quoted layout and its approved instructions. Do not choose one from the efficiency number alone. Have the proposal name the exact cabinet and suffix, and explain how it fits the ducts, venting and other terms at the install site.

What if two sources list different warranty lengths?

Do not choose the longer summary by default. Match the supplied unit to its current certificate and applicable terms. Dates, full model codes and registration terms matter. Ask the issuer to resolve any conflict in writing before relying on a benefit.

The comparison here makes no blanket lifetime or labor-coverage promise.
